“When people lie, it matters what they think and what they feel”

Paul Ekman

“Average lie detection rate among professionals, criminalists, students, lawyers, policemen and others is about 54%. After one day of training (face expressions) – we noticed increase in this rate to 71.4% on average. After 3-4 days of trainings, using all communication channels, people can detect up to 80-90% of lie”

Cliff Lansley

This training is designed to teach you to detect indications of credibility and lies in communication. Average lie detection rate among untrained people is about 54%- no better than chance. Many course participants increase this rate to 80-90%.

The course destroys many myths about truth and lies. It is based on scientific research of Dr Paul Ekman, pre-eminent psychologist, researcher of lie detection, scientific advisor to famous TV show “Lie To Me” featuring Tim Roth. Dr Ekman is the prototype of the series’ main character, Dr. Lightman. His incredible ability to recognize lies has earned him the reputation of being 'the best human lie detector in the world.'

After training you will possess skills and understanding of truth and lies, which few in the world have.

1.Learn about psychological models of truth and lies (science of truth and lies).

2.Learn to detect micro expressions.

3.Analyze behavior using 5 communication channels.

4.Master specific interview style for practical use of Paul Ekman’s lie detection methodology.

ETaC training is a four-day program based on solid research and science of Dr Paul Ekman and his colleagues, designed to develop a person's ability and skills to examine behavior and recognize emotions in others as a basis for evaluating truth and lies, as well as analyze them in communication process.

It covers the psychological models behind truth and lies, plus the skills required to identify 'Hotspots' - instances when the strain between what we are thinking and what we are feeling produce observable/audible leakage across the five channels (face, body, voice, verbal style and content). The course is designed to help you to read and evaluate the degree of truthfulness and credibility in what others are communicating to you. Particular attention is devoted to analysis of micro expressions – hallmark of Dr Ekman’s method.

As well as the unique, five channel approach to training you will also learn about memory, and how you can work out whether a statement of an event is remembered or being constructed through scientific content analysis.

You will practice and hone those skills in a safe environment with Paul Ekman Approved Trainers. The courses are enriched with unique content, using videos of truth-tellers and liars from high-stake cotexts such as international Embassy visa applications, scientifically validated experiments conducted by Prof Paul Ekman himself, criminals’ interviews and extracts of CEOs from commercial investment contexts. We also use live practice sessions to help delegates build knowledge, skills and application with high quality feedback from the Paul Ekman Trainers.

A graded Certificate of Competence will be awarded to you on completion.

Aims:

You will be better able to interact with and elicit information from others, especially in high stake contexts. It will improve your capacity to evaluate the credibility of data received in the course of observations, conversations, interviews and investigations by:

a) Enhancing your understanding of how to identify and interpret five channels of communication

b) Improving your capacity to utilise active listening and observational skills.

Objectives:

Experience indicates that the ETaC training significantly improves lie detections skills (brings it to 80-90%) At the end of the workshop you will be able to:

- Analyze information about conversation partner’s behavior evidencing his thoughts and emotions, from different sources, including micro expressions

- Take a structured approach to the detection of leakage

- Adopt active listening and observation skills

Feedback from participants

Chris Woodruff, Sales and Procurement – UK

“I’m writing as I’ve not had the opportunity to put in writing my thanks and gratitude to yourself Cliff, and also to the training team of Aaron, Maggie, John, Duncan, Jordan and Harry for the enthusiasm, professionalism, humour and candour you put into the teaching of both the ETAC and ESAC Courses.

I’m glad that I made the decision to attend both the ETAC and ESAC courses. At a time when I was in between jobs and facing and uncertain future, the investment was a sound one and extremely worthwhile! The course content was informative, well structured, provoking and fun.

This was complimented by group interaction which enabled us to actively apply what we had learnt as we went along. Coming from a Professional Procurement and Sales background, I interact with clients on a daily basis, advising and negotiating on large contracts. The skills that I have acquired on the courses have improved both my business and personal life.

The beauty of Paul Ekman’s science is that it can be applied to any situation and environment and everyone no matter what their background can benefit from it. Less than 2 weeks after attending the ETAC Course I was successful in getting a new job and I can say that applying what I learnt helped me tremendously in the interview.

The course is already paying for itself. Tangible reward! I would ideally love to be able to work with this information and use it to help others and earn a living from it in the future, just not in a sales capacity. I’ve set myself a two year goal to achieve this and am intending to write to some local services/organisations whereby I might be able to continue to learn in an observing capacity initially.

I’ve also become a bit of a sponge since the course and am trying to soak up more information from a number of the different books you pointed me to. Thanks.”

Alexander Ogden – London

“The 4 days I spent at the Emotional Intelligence Academy training on evaluating truthfulness and credibility were excellent.

I arrived at the course thinking I already had a good understanding on how to do this from the books and on-line training I had received in the past and very quickly learnt that this wasn’t the case. The detail the course goes into is brilliant and teaches you to observe leakage over 5 channels that I previously didn’t even know existed!

There is no limit to the application of this type of science both personally and professionally and I would, and have, recommended it to several friends and colleagues already.”

Agnes Mariakaki (Comsumer Psychologist – Greece)

“I found the ETaC course to be very professionally organized, brilliantly structured so as to ensure that the information was not only delivered well, but also understood and assimilated by the participants. The course teaches a full skill set thoroughly, and includes in it the teaching of attitudes that make a difference in lie detection: integrity, comprehensiveness, professionalism and an open mind. I found myself able to apply the skills and knowledge right away, and I look forward to going further in the adventure of understanding people.”

Monika Wojcik – Poland

“I found the Evaluation of Truthfulness, Lies and Credibility course fascinating! I enjoyed it very much and I am truly impressed with this workshop and quality of work. It was very professional and knowledgeable, with a perfect balance between practice and theory. Great discussions and interactions. Thank you again for the great workshop. I look forward to attending your next courses.”

Jack May – California USA

“I was fortunate enough to be able to attend back to back the ESaC and ETaC courses. To get the Ekman information in a concentrated format really enabled me to integrate it into my business environment more quickly. My first level was just applying it to my subordinates and peers, and now I am able to use it regularly with my colleagues and partners.

Surprisingly I am already actually getting positive feedback from people who have no idea that I took the courses. I attribute that success all to the team at Ekman International in Manchester.

The workshops were very clear and logical and the materials are some of the best formatted and presented participant packages that I have ever encountered…yes ever!”
